Bank and Post Office
-
The
only bank that existed is ANZ Bank. I walked into the bank with my
travelers' check and passport on one hand and my camera on the other
hand. Guess what - I was mistaken to be photographing the bank and
inevitably triggers off the guards at all corners that came up right
to me, asking me to surrender my camera.
-
Over
at the counter - a HKD coin slipped out from in between my passport
pages, the teller took an interested look and asked: "Japanese
yen, yes? You have?" Took a second look at my passport and asked:
"Singapore coin? You have? This HK coin? May I have it?"
I was on the verge to rebuke "do I look like a banker to you?"
Before I could answer, she asked, "You have some more?"
I walked out of the bank, with 60 US cents short which equates to
30,000 dongs, that is equal to six meals or ten bottles of mineral
water!

Back
home, e-mail is at the comfort of a DSL line, here e-mail connection
is on a 286-museum-type of computer and a crawling speed of 24kps
plus frequent disconnection. The receptionist helped to get a connection.
It hanged. He turned and looked at me, finally said "no connection
today!" I tried another twenty minutes later, it worked and it
dropped without me sending any message. Again, I asked for help. He
strolled by, picked up the mini tower, shake it violently like a piggy
bank, set it down, slapped it a couple of times and connects to the
Internet again. I finally got a slow connection, but to think about
what he had done thus far, I can't help but kept on doing the shoulder
shrugs, holding my laughter back! It's definitely by no miracles that
it worked!
