Shark
Encounter It is here that I found this awesome shark. I have been looking at sharks all day long and all of a sudden, there is this stealth-bomber looking thing swimming out right up-close and personal directly in the vision of my mask swoops by towards Mike. It took me a minute to realize what it was. This must have been a nine feet long Silky shark. The shoal of fish around it regrouped and opened up into a viper "V" shape, giving way to this huge creature. My heart freezes. Despite the sound advice Sebastian & Philippe had given during the pre-dive briefing - "breathe slowly and exhale lightly, don't scare away the fishes where we are down at 80 to 90 feet". At this defying moment, the mere presence of this one shark makes the whole ordeal of gearing up the equipment, traveling in the "Zodiac" like navy divers without the luxury of a holiday-maker, all worth the while. My heart skipped several beats; one thing leads to the other. Next I know my first-stage is sipping in water, and subsequently, I am breathing in a mixture of oxygen and seawater. How did I end up like this, I still have no clue till now. All I do remember is having Sebastian pulling me and tucking me under the coral head before it is too late to pull me back away from the current. Whilst he consistently checks on Michael's half-exhausted oxygen gauge. |
