RIVER KWAI ADVENTURE

As I mentioned the hotel actually floats, it's on big rafts and the rooms are all linked by walkways with room to lie in a hammock or sun-bake on the decks. There is no electricity, so at night oil lamps create a peaceful, romantic atmosphere. My room is pretty simple with just a cold shower but despite the rustic nature, I love my home for two nights.

I get acquainted with people from a village very nearby. They are Mon people, an ethnic group originally from Burma. They have their own elephants that come down to the river and love to feed on the restaurant scraps. My god-brother with his girl friend and I decided to ride on the elephant, lurching our way through the jungle vegetation: this is a real buzz! I thank my new long nosed friend with a bunch of bananas and then it's time to float down the river on bamboo rafts. Bliss!
